A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Vision Board

A vision board is one of the various tools for manifesting and turning your dreams into reality. As we head into 2024, envisioning your year ahead through the lens of a vision board can be a game-changer.

A vision board is essentially a blank canvas for your life that encapsulates your goals, dreams, and aspirations. You have the power to create your reality and a vision board is a great place to take those thoughts and dreams and put them out on a poster for you to see in a tangible way.

Think about the experiences you want to attract, the achievements you aim to accomplish, and the personal growth you aspire to achieve. A vision board serves as a visual roadmap, reminding you daily of what you're striving for and helping manifest your desired reality throughout the year.

What is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a creative and intentional display of your desires. It's a powerful tool that helps you align your thoughts and emotions with what you want to attract into your life. By compiling images, words, and affirmations that resonate with your goals, it becomes a magnet for manifesting your deepest desires and transforming them into reality. This practice isn't new; renowned athletes, entrepreneurs, and public figures have long relied on vision boarding.

The Magic Behind a Vision Board

A vision board operates on the principles of visualization, the law of attraction, and goal setting. It's a tool designed to help you clarify your desires, set intentions, and manifest your dreams by creating a visual representation of your goals.

Here's how it generally works:

  • Clarifying Goals: The process of creating a vision board starts with getting super clear on your aspirations across various aspects of life – career, relationships, health, personal growth, etc. This helps you clarify what it is you truly want to manifest.
  • Visualization: By creating a vision board, you're essentially visualizing your goals. The images, words, and affirmations on the board serve as visual reminders of what you aim to achieve.
  • Activation of Reticular Activating System (RAS): When you focus on something specific, your brain's Reticular Activating System kicks in, helping you notice opportunities, resources, and information that align with your goals. The images and words on your vision board act as a constant reminder, prompting your subconscious mind to notice relevant opportunities in your surroundings.
  • Positive Affirmations and Emotional Connection: The images and words chosen for the vision board are often tied to emotions. When you look at the board, it evokes positive emotions and feelings associated with achieving those goals. This emotional connection strengthens your belief and commitment to manifesting those desires.
  • Law of Attraction: What you consistently focus on—whether positive or negative—tends to materialize in your life. Positive thoughts and visualizing your goals can attract corresponding positive experiences or opportunities.
  • Taking Action: It's essential to recognize that a vision board isn’t just about wishful thinking. It's a tool to inspire and motivate action. The process of creating and regularly engaging with your vision board should be accompanied by active steps and efforts toward achieving your goals.

Materials Needed:

You can either make it digitally and print it out, make one for your phone screen saver, or make one physically.

If making it physically, you’ll need a poster board or corkboard, magazines, scissors, glue, markers, stickers, or any other decorative items you might want to use.

Pinterest and Canva are great tools to use when making them digitally.

Steps to Create a Vision Board:

  • Set Your Intentions: Reflect on what you truly desire in different areas of life such as career, relationships, health, personal growth, etc. (use the questions below)
  • Gather Inspiration: Browse through magazines, print images from the internet/pinterest, buy vision board books on Amazon, or use personal photos that resonate with your goals.
  • Select Your Images and Words: Choose images, quotes, and words that deeply resonate with your aspirations and evoke positive emotions.
  • Arrange and Create: Arrange the chosen images and words on the board in a way that feels visually appealing and inspiring. Focus less on making it a mood board and being super aesthetic, and really focus on the things you desire and how you want to feel when you have those things.
  • Display and Reflect: Place the vision board in a visible place where you can see it daily to reflect on your intentions.

Questions to ask yourself:

You essentially want to create a character of yourself that already has everything you are desiring, really think about what their goals are, how others treat them, what they are wearing, what they do on a daily basis, who they hang out with, etc. A little secret, this character is actually just your higher self that you are accessing.

Consider thinking about career, health, relationships, and lifestyle (including travel, daily routines, fitness goals, dream places to visit, and experiences you yearn for).

Make sure you are also adding how you will feel when you accomplish these goals, get into the feeling of it already happening when you are answering these questions. Add your emotions to the board as well, how you are desiring to feel by having these things is key to help your mind believe it’s possible.
